Achieving ISO 9001 Certification
Because of our commitment to delivering a quality-assured service for the supply of obsolete electronic components and the sale of excess stock of components we have held ISO 9001 certification for more than 30 years. Our certification is for procurement and supply of electronic and electrical components. This is a brief summary of what is required to achieve this.
1. Understand the ISO 9001 Standard
- Understand the structure and requirements of the standard, including:
- Context of the organisation
- Leadership and planning
- Support and operational processes
- Performance evaluation
- Continuous improvement
2. Conduct a Gap Analysis
- Compare current processes with the ISO 9001 requirements.
- Identify areas that do not comply and need improvement or documentation.
3. Develop a Quality Management System
- Define a Quality Policy and measurable Quality Objectives.
- Document key procedures and processes (control of documents, nonconformity handling, internal audits, etc.).
- Define roles, responsibilities, and authority.
- Ensure proper control over records and data.
4. Implement the QMS
- Train staff and ensure awareness of quality procedures and objectives.
- Put documented procedures into daily
5. Conduct Internal Audits
- Plan and carry out internal audits to assess conformity and effectiveness.
- Identify nonconformities and implement corrective actions.
6. Hold a Management Review
- Conduct regular reviews by top management to ensure the QMS is aligned with strategic goals.
- Address risks, opportunities, customer feedback, and audit results.
7. Choose a Certification Body
- Select a UKAS-accredited (or equivalent) external certification body.
- Submit an application and agree a schedule for audits.
8. Undergo a Certification Audit
- Stage 1 Audit: A preliminary review of documentation and readiness.
- Stage 2 Audit: A full on-site audit to assess implementation and effectiveness.
9. Address Any Nonconformities
- If any issues are identified during the audit, implement corrective actions and provide evidence of resolution.
10. Achieve Certification
- If the audit is successful, the certification body issues an ISO 9001 certificate, typically valid for three years.
- Surveillance audits will be conducted annually, and a full recertification audit is required every three years.
